Playgroups
Playgroups create an opportunity for children to develop social skills, learn from each other, and have fun. And for parents and caregivers, they provide a forum to share experiences, make new friends, and take a break from the daily routine.
The Sudbury Family Network organizes playgroups for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers based on age, availability, and even on kindergarten entering class. Playgroups are typically hosted at families' homes on a rotating basis and may include outings to local playgrounds and other kid-friendly settings. Most playgroups meet once a week; others meet every other week or even once a month.
Read one mother's experience with a Sudbury Family Network playgroup:
"I joined an SFN playgroup when my first son was six months old. We had a great bunch of dedicated moms who made it a priority to attend every week. We learned so much from each other over the years as we faced the many obstacles our growing children presented to us. Most of us had another child or two, and we had to change our playgroup schedule quite a few times so that we could all attend. Luckily, we were able to keep the group going until our children started kindergarten this year. This playgroup has played a very special part in our lives. My family made some pretty amazing friends that will forever stay in our lives." --Valerie Maillet, SFN mom of two.
